Ex-Celtic star Vidar Riseth believes it is essential for his old club to keep Mohamed Elyounoussi.

The attacker is coming to the end of his second loan spell at the club and there is no definitive indication of where he will be playing his football next season.

The Norwegian is a Southampton player and it is believed any permanent deal would cost a hefty price.

However, speaking to the Daily Record, former defender Riseth feels the price tag would be worth it.

He said: "It’s important to keep (Elyounoussi). Of course he’s a good player but it’s also important that he is a good man.

"He is not someone that you would describe as a big head. Mohamed is a player who will try to take care of other players, the coaches and everyone around him. That’s important to him and that’s the type of player that every club wants and needs.

"He trains very hard day to day, when he has to sit on the bench, he does not complain."

Elyounoussi's fellow countryman feels that another reason the Hoops should retain his services is because of the apparent upheaval that will be going on over the summer.

Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie all look likely to be moving on in the next window as well as, potentially, several others.

Riseth reckons retaining the forward could provide important continuity for the next manager in the door.

“Keeping Mohamed is important because there are so many rumours about players going and there could be many of them.

“When you join any club it takes some time to settle. That’s the case for most players.

“But once you settle down you start to understand what is required. Mohamed knows what type of football is played in Scotland, he knows what are the demands of Celtic, he knows what needs to be done."
