JAMES TAVERNIER insists all his Ibrox anguish has been worth it after leading Rangers to a memorable 55th title success this term.

Tavernier became the first Rangers captain in a decade to hold aloft the Premiership silverware after Steven Gerrard’s side beat Aberdeen 4-0 on Saturday.

The Englishman has endured his fair share of low points during his six years in Scotland but he now has a place in Rangers folklore and Scottish football history.

And the right-back can savour the ultimate achievement with Rangers as his efforts and his patience have paid off alongside Gerrard and his team-mates.

Tavernier said: “Does this make it all worth it? Yeah, it does.

“There have been ups and downs but now I’m sitting here with his trophy having won it with an amazing group.

“The staff, the players, everyone sat the club and the fans - I’m just so proud of everything we’ve achieved this season. But this is just a taste of it and we want more next season.

“We’re happy to have this but we want more next season and that will be our aim. I always had belief that we’d win this.

“When the gaffer came in he brought in the players that we needed and set the standards from day one. It was only a matter of time before everything came together.

“You know, it’s been such a difficult year for everyone and it was a big ask for everyone.

“But I thought we handled it perfectly throughout the league campaign and to go unbeaten and set records is an amazing achievement. But this is a starting point for the group.

“We have got top enjoy this moment but when next season comes we have to push on and go again.”

Tavernier was part of the Rangers side that clinched their return to the Premiership when the Championship title was won during Mark Warburton’s tenure.

He has suffered Old Firm defeats, cup exits and league heartache in the seasons since but can now cherish the moment after leading Rangers to title glory this term.

Tavernier said: “I think that's just me as a person. I want to win things.

“My family has been extremely close to me and been supportive. The gaffer has supported us during the times that we've had and been a massive help to us.

“And I've got the boys as well. I've got a great group around us, the senior group – Greegsy, Davo and Connor. They help make my job easier. We all push each other along.

“We knew this day was coming but now we've had a taste of it, we've got to want more.”
