FERGAL HARKIN will not be part of Celtic’s restructuring plans with the Irishman set to remain at Manchester City.

While discussions were held between Celtic and City’s Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager, Herald Sport understands that Harkin was never offered a newly created Director of Football position at the club.

Former Celtic striker Shaun Maloney is believed though to have held talks with the club with a view to taking up a strategic role with his old club.

The 38-year-old is currently preparing for the European Championships as part of Belgium’s backroom team, and it is understood that neither party is in a rush to commit to an agreement.

Meanwhile, Celtic remain confident that they will tie up a deal with Ange Postecoglou to become their new manager in the coming days.

Talks have been ongoing between Celtic, Postecoglou and his current employers Yokohama F. Marinos since first choice candidate Eddie Howe turned down the chance to become Neil Lennon’s successor last Friday.

But the club believe they will be able to land their man this time around and get him over to Scotland soon to begin a ten-day isolation period before signing his contract.
