STEPHEN WELSH says that Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at Celtic represents a clean slate for everyone at the club as the defender outlined his excitement at the prospect of working under his new manager.

The Australian will meet his players for the first time next week following a period of isolation upon his arrival in the UK from Japan, and Welsh is desperate to make a good early impression on the incoming head coach.

The young centre-back is hoping the appointment will help the squad shake off the disappointment of last season and get them focused on bringing success back to the club in the near future.

“I saw his interview which was very positive,” Welsh said.

“I’m very excited to work under him and hopefully make a good impression in pre-season.

“I’ve not spoken to Tom (Rogic) but I’m sure he will know a lot about him. He worked under him at the World Cup which shows you the stature of what he can do.

“I’m sure we’re all be raring to go and excited to work under him. It’s almost like a fresh start for us now.

“We’ve got a lot to look forward to. The draw has just been made for the Champions League and the fixtures came out this week for the league season.

“It feels like it’s just around the corner so we’ll be working very hard over the next few weeks to be ready for it.”

The draw for Celtic’s first Champions League qualifying tie took place yesterday, with the Premiership runners-up being paired with Danish side FC Midtjylland.

“It’s a tough draw as we expected going into this tie but we are very much looking forward to it,” said Welsh.

“We’ve got a few weeks to prepare as well as we can for it and that starts with the pre-season and the fitness side.

“We’re going down to the camp in Wales and will get a few games under our belts and hopefully we’ll be ready for Midtjylland in the middle of July.

“We know they are going to be a tough side as they are competing to get into the Champions League.”
