FORMER Scotland internationalist Leanne Crichton has slammed her English counterpart Rio Ferdinand for his "disrespectful" prediction made on BBC moments before kick-off between England and Scotland at Wembley on Friday evening.
Steve Clarke and his players headed to London as outsiders but battled hard to grind out a draw against the Auld Enemy, keeping their hopes of becoming the first Scottish team to make it out of the group at a major tournament alive.
The result caught many by surprise - not least the large swathes of the English commentariat who were confidently predicting a routine victory for Gareth Southgate's men - with Crichton taking particular exception to the comments made by the former England and Manchester United centre-half.
Speaking shortly before kick-off, Ferdinand exclaimed: "It’s a huge game. I can’t wait. Nothing to fear, and we will go down and get our seat and watch it. Looking forward to it.
"England are going to win. I can’t see anything else, I’m telling you. I’ve never been this confident about a game in a major championship."
Speaking to BBC Scotland, Crichton accused Ferdinand of showing a lack of respect towards Clarke's players - adding that the England team might not be quite as good as pundits south of the border would lead you to believe.
"Some of the things that Rio Ferdinand has said are genuinely embarrassing," the Glasgow City midfielder explained. "It's so disrespectful.
"Kieran Tierney is an Arsenal player and is probably Arsenal's best player.
"Scott McTominay plays for Manchester United. Billy Gilmour could probably walk into any other team bar Chelsea.
"England haven't actually won anything since '66, yet there's an entitlement and expectation that they should have walked over Scotland.
"They need to have a bit of realism about where their money and resources actually takes them."
