CELTIC daft Sir Rod Stewart has sent his best wishes to Hoops legend Bertie Auld after it was revealed he had been diagnosed with dementia.

We reported that the Lisbon Lion had been diagnosed with the condition last week. 

Stewart filmed a video before Scotland's final Euro 2020 clash with Croatia at Hampden last night, according to the Daily Record.

In the clip he said: "Hi Bertie, it's Rod here. Just about to watch the Croatia v Scotland game.

"I hear you're not feeling too good mate, please get well soon.

"I miss you so much. Love you."

Auld was part of the legendary Jock Stein team who took the Parkhead side to victory over Inter Milan in the European Cup final in 1967.

Celtic has also passed their good wishes to the club legend. A statement said: "Bertie Auld's family would like all Celtic fans and football fans in general to keep Bertie in their prayers as they confirmed that he is suffering with dementia.

"The family would like to thank everyone for their huge support and request privacy during this difficult time.

"Bertie is being well cared for at his own home, surrounded by all the family.

"Everyone at Celtic would like to add their best wishes to Bertie and his family. Bertie is a true Celtic icon, one of our greatest sons and someone the Club and our supporters love and respect dearly.

"We will continue to give Bertie and his family all our love, care and our ongoing full support at this hugely challenging time."

Fellow Lisbon Lion, Billy McNeil died in 2019 after suffering with the disease since 2010.
