CONNOR GOLDSON reckons Rangers' camaraderie off the park was integral to their success on it as Steven Gerrard's side revel in their crowning as Premiership champions.

Rangers ended their decade-long wait for silverware last season as an unbeaten top flight campaign saw them dash Celtic's ten-in-a-row dreams and deliver a historic 55th league flag to suffering supporters.

Goldson was an integral part of the side that Gerrard would also guide into the last 16 of the Europa League as the defender played every minute of that 38-game undefeated Premiership run.

And the achievement will continue to live long in the memory for Goldson as he finally earned such a sought-after medal just years after his career-threatening heart surgery whilst at Brighton.

“For me it has just been incredible, a season that will live with me for the rest of my life," Goldson told the Rangers official souvenir magazine.

“It’s not often you have seasons like this in your football career with no injuries and playing with a lot of joy and freedom.

“Also just playing with a group of team-mates that you really bond with and you really get on with.

“It has been amazing and I think you can see that on the pitch as much as off it, how much we get on with each other and the bond that we have as a team. So it has been a great year and one I’ll cherish forever.

“To play every minute of the season has been amazing, a real achievement for myself.

“I’ve always been quite naturally fit and luckily I don’t pick up many injuries.

"I remember when I signed here I read a lot of things about my heart condition and what happened and I might not be able to play so much football.

“I think I’ve proved that wrong and I’ve always been able to play a lot of games.

"Thankfully, the manager selected me for all the games this season and hopefully I have rewarded him with performances on the pitch.”

The form of Goldson was hugely significant over the course of the campaign for Rangers and the 28-year-old would lead by example throughout what was a remarkable season individually and collectively at Ibrox.

Rangers conceded just 13 goals on their way to the title as Gerrard's side set a new British record and dropped just a handful of points to ensure they finished well clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The title triumph was built on those foundations and Goldson is grateful for the support provided by fellow centre-backs Leon Balogun and Filip Helander as Rangers rewrote the history books.

“I really don’t know how we’ve managed to be so solid," Goldson said. "It’s probably just been confidence because we started the season well and even in pre-season we had a lot of clean sheets.

“We went into games with belief that we could stop teams from scoring and at the other end we know that we are always going to get chances to score goals.

“We just always made a conscious effort to keep as many clean sheets as possible knowing that will help us win games.

“It has been a pleasure to play alongside Leon, Filip and Jack Simpson throughout the season.

“They all have their own qualities and they’ve all played such a massive part in this journey, not only this season but you also have to credit Niko Katic and George Edmundson as well in previous years.

“They have been brilliant, we have kept clean sheets and won big games together.

"They have pushed me to have to improve my game every single week to make sure I am selected in the starting line-up, so I am really happy with all the centre-backs we have here and I hope we continue to flourish in the future.”
