Rangers youngster Chris McKee faces a Scottish FA hearing on Thursday following his red card during Brechin City’s pyramid play-off defeat to Kelty Hearts.
The on-loan striker was sent-off by referee Craig Napier in the first-half of Brechin’s 3-1 aggregate loss, with it later confirmed he had been accused of using 'foul and abusive language of a homophobic nature’.
The 19-year-old was said to be distraught and crying so much after the tie that ‘he couldn’t get his words out’, according to then City manager Michael Paton.
Rangers vowed to investigate the incident 'thoroughly’ and insisted it would be ‘treated with the utmost seriousness’.
McKee has been charged with breaching disciplinary rule 202 by committing ‘excessive misconduct’, an offence that carries a minimum punishment of a two-match suspension and a ‘top end’ ban of 12 games.
The Northern Irishman is expected to hear his fate following the principal hearing on July 1.
