DAVE KING is confident Steven Gerrard will have savoured every second of Rangers' Premiership title win before getting back down to business ahead of the new season.

Gerrard lifted his first silverware as manager last term as Rangers completed an unbeaten top flight campaign to end their decade-long wait for the league flag.

King would oversee the tenures of Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty after regime change before leading the pursuit of Gerrard and he has repeatedly backed the 41-year-old to enjoy a prolonged stay at Ibrox.

Covid restrictions would prevent the former chairman from returning to Scotland to take part in the celebrations and few know better than King just what the achievement means to Rangers and supporters.

King said: "The game was shown live on ESPN over here. There was no way of getting over to Glasgow, which obviously I would have loved to have done.

"It was very emotional. My son phoned from me from London and we were in tears on the phone.

"For me, there was a part emotional relief in getting the title won, even though it was early.

"But then watching what it meant to everyone was fantastic. There was some sadness, though, at not being able to be there. I would have loved to have been there.

"I spoke to Steven and told him to enjoy the day. It’s one of those that can pass by so quickly so I said he should try his best to enjoy it because it was a high point for the club.

"Within a matter of weeks he was going to be back into chasing Champions League qualifiers and everything else. So I just recommended he enjoy it as much as he can.

"I would say the probability [of Steven leaving] is zero per cent."
