GARY MCALLISTER has revealed Rangers were 'obsessed' with winning last season as they clinched a 55th Premiership title.

The champions ended the campaign with an unbeaten top flight record as they also reached the last 16 of the Europa League for the second consecutive season.

McAllister enjoyed a sterling playing career south of the border, most notably with Leeds United and Liverpool, and has played a key role as part of Steven Gerrard's staff over the last three seasons.

His efforts have now been rewarded with a sought-after league flag and the Ibrox assistant manager has detailed the mindset of the squad that has written their name into Rangers folklore.

McAllister told the Rangers official souvenir magazine: “Being part of success at Leeds United and Liverpool, you just wanted to be part of it again – and why would you not?

“I felt Leeds was a club where you had a chance of winning things and then at Liverpool, you had a greater chance of that with all the history and tradition there.

“Rangers is one of the most successful clubs in the world so when you play here – and now that we have that first trophy in the bag – why wouldn’t you believe you can keep going?

“Everything here is great towards winning and the expectation levels are always there. Even in the lowest days this club has been through in recent times, it was set up to win.

“The fans want that and it is a winning club so this is a great opportunity for the players to go and really jump forward with more success.

“When you look at the staff as a whole, there is not a shyness about anybody so they have got that moment to speak when they want it.

“I don’t think anybody shies away from putting their head above the parapet and saying what they think.

“That is key to how we work. It is an open room and there are people in there that are like-minded in that they want to win.

“They are obsessed when it comes to wanting to win matches and trophies and coming up with ideas.

“We have people who organise the training who are second to none and when you put all these things together with that first for wanting to win, you’ve always got a chance.”
