JOHN LUNDSTRAM has found himself in the right place at the right time. Now he is determined to make the most of his opportunity with Rangers.

Relegation to the Championship was not how the midfielder wanted to end his time with Sheffield United last season. This term, he has the Champions League in his sights.

Lundstram's move to Ibrox was confirmed on Monday afternoon as he signed a three-year deal to become the latest part of Steven Gerrard's jigsaw ahead of the new campaign.

Rangers will begin the defence of their Premiership title with the visit of Livingston at the end of the month and their return to the top table of European football is also looming large in the coming weeks.

Glasgow Times: Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram has refused to rule out the possibility that he will stay at Bramall Lane beyond this season.

At 27, Lundstram has plenty of experiences, both good and bad, to look at in the game. It is the future that he is focused on, though, as the Liverpudlian prepares for a fresh start in Scottish football.

"That was another massive draw for me so hopefully we can qualify for the group stages," Lundstram told RangersTV.

"That would be unbelievable and it was another step in my mind towards coming here. If I can help the lads do that, I am sure it would be unbelievable for everyone involved in the club.

"Definitely [I am in my prime years]. 100 per cent. I feel like I am mature now as a player, I have matured as a person and I am just raring to go. I have got a lot of fire in my belly and I want to succeed.

"I have met a lot of Scottish people in my life along the way and every time you do they remind you of back home.

"It is a very similar city to the one where I am from. I can’t wait to get going and I am sure it will be a passionate one.

"I just like to think I can provide a couple of goals. I am a box to box midfielder. I will give everything every single day, never mind a matchday.

"I have a lot of energy and hopefully I can bring a bit of experience and stuff like that. I am just here to help the lads and hopefully get some goals and assists along the way."

Lundstram was a mainstay of the United side that won promotion to the Premier League and then enjoyed a remarkable season alongside England's elite under the guidance of Chris Wilder.

The top flight dream would end last term as Wilder left Bramall Lane and the Blades were consigned to a return to the Championship for this season.

Rangers will offer Lundstram a very different opportunity, though, and he believes the mentality forged under Wilder's tutelage will stand him in good stead for life at Ibrox.

Lundstram said: "That is something the old manager instilled in all of us back then. Obviously it didn’t end the way he would have wanted or the way any of us would have wanted but to be here now, I know the winning mentality of here and the Rangers fans.

"I just can’t wait and hopefully I can bring some of that winning mentality and continue the success from last season.

Glasgow Times: John Lundstram celebrates his winner against Crystal Palace

"It was massive [to play in the Premier League]. It was massive, and it gave me a lot of confidence to realise that I belonged there.

"I belong with those players and those top, top players along the way. I felt like I held my own along the way.

"You realise that you can compete with these players. That is massive.

"I spent 18 years or so at Everton. It was great, really good. A good family club.

"Obviously I never reached the heights expected of me as a young kid but it was all a learning curve.

"People develop at different ages and different times. I have come into my prime in the last couple of years and hopefully I can continue that."
