RANGERS started their pre-season with a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle.

Steven Gerrard's Premiership Champions returned to action at Firhill as prepartions ramp up ahead of the new season.

Cedric Itten scored to get the Light Blues off to a winning start in Glasgow, but skipper James Tavernier missed a spot-kick.

Rangers have five more friendlies arranged before league duty begins, as well as an open training session at Ibrox.

Gerrard's men are next in action on Saturday as they head to take on Tranmere Rovers. 

The following week Rangers will face Arsenal at Ibrox in a match to commemorate the club's 150th anniversary.

It will see former Celtic star Kieran Tierney return to Glasgow as part of the North London club's squad.

Blackpool will offer another English test for Rangers as Gerrard takes his team on the road down south.

A bonus fan focussed pre-season activity will be a public training session for MyGers subscribers.

Announcing the training access a Rangers statement added: "An open training session has been one of our most-requested membership experiences and subject to COVID-19 regulations, we are thrilled to offer this experience which will be perfect for the whole family to experience how Steven Gerrard prepares the champions in training sessions."

Rangers cotinue their pre-season the next day with a match against Birghton and Hove Albion at Ibrox.

The match will see the return of former Celtic loanee Shane Duffy to Ibrox after returning to the Premier League side.

A late addition to the pre-season fixture list is a test against Real Madrid at Ibrox.

Gerrard's side will take on Los Blancos as Rangers prepare to celebrate their 150th anniversary next year.
