Aberdeen striker Jay-Emmanuel Thomas was subjected to racist abuse after commenting on Rangers ace Jermain Defoe's Instagram page.

The Dons frontman took to social media to call out the yob for replying to a comment from JET with a monkey and banana emoji.

Sharing a screenshot of himself writing 'Certi' on Defoe's post after the Gers ace beamed about being named captain during a friendly against Partick Thistle, JET was fuming with the abuse.

Glasgow Times:

He said: "Theres Always 1 … have you got nothing better to do at 8:30am??"

Instagram have confirmed they have taken action. A Facebook company spokesman said: "The racist abuse directed at Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is unacceptable and we’ve removed the comment and the account that posted it.

"We have built safety features, including Comment Filters and Message Controls, which can meaningfully decrease the abuse people experience. No single thing will fix this challenge overnight but we’re committed to doing what we can to keep our community safe from abuse."

Aberdeen have been approached for comment.

The brainless comment left by the person is not the first time in recent months where racism has reared its ugly head on social media.

We told how, following Rangers' defeat to Slavia Prague - where Glen Kamara was racially abused - that his teammate Kemar Roofe was sent monkey emojis in the aftermath on Instagram.

Former Celtic loanee Timothy Weah was also abused online with monkey emojis.
