Celtic's attempts to sign Sacha Boey have been scuppered after the defender snubbed the club.
Herald and Times Sport exclusively revealed the Rennes full-back was wanted by the Hoops who had lodged a bid of around £1million for his services.
The player and club had been in advanced discussions over a transfer but talks have since deteriorated.
We understand the right-sided defender, 19, was wary of outside interference from intermediaries and opted against doing any deal.
We told recently how Boey has just one year left on his current deal in Ligue 1 after spending last season on loan at Dijon where he could not prevent the club getting relegated.
He was, however, voted their player of the season before returning to his parent club.
Celts will now turn their attentions to other targets as they continue to seek a new right-back, with just Anthony Ralston on their books in that position following Jonjoe Kenny's loan spell last term.
Brandon Soppy remains a target as well as George Baldock.
