STEVEN GERRARD admits he is 'not sure' when Alfredo Morelos will return to Rangers as he addressed the latest rounds of speculation regarding his Ibrox future.

Morelos was granted extra leave this summer following Colombia's run to the semi-finals of the Copa America and the striker this week posted a video of him appearing at a charity match in aid of his Foundation in his homeland.

Rangers begin their Premiership title defence against Livingston next Saturday before facing Malmo or HJK Helsinki in a hugely significant Champions League third qualifying round clash.

Morelos has emerged as a transfer target for Porto ahead of the new campaign and, speaking to Sky Sports, Gerrard labelled questions about the 25-year-old's status as 'tiresome' as doubts continue to surround Rangers' main forward.

“I think the important thing to begin with is to get the people already in up to speed," Gerrard said. “Glen Kamara has been at a tournament, for example.

"Alfredo Morelos is due back at some point, we’re not sure when. Hopefully he’ll arrive when he’s ready.

“We’ve got a few injured players that have happened in pre-season that we need to get some more minutes into and some more training load, so they’re ready.

“If we can in the coming weeks add one or two to the cause then we’ll be ready.

“I don’t know [if Morelos will stay]. I can’t answer that question for you.

“For me, we want the best version of Alfredo. That’s all we’ve ever asked for.

“I’ve read a lot of stuff around Alfredo. I know where it’s coming from. I don’t know what’s going to happen with him.

“No I’m not frustrated. I’m very happy. We’re just coming off the back of a fantastic season. I’m excited moving into the new season.

“I get asked this question every window, every few weeks because you read more about Alfredo in terms of who he’s linked with or where he’s possibly going to go rather than what he does on the football pitch. It’s getting a bit tiresome now that question.”
