It seems like every bookie traipses out a one-size-fits-all template for their new manager markets every time a Premier League boss bids farewell for better or worse.

The same names appear, the managerial merry-go-round goes on and cash is made or lost. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has become the go-to when it comes to shortlists created by these oddsmakers, with Liverpool, Tottenham and even Everton being linked in recent times with the Anfield icon.

But despite Gerrard - a Champions League winner with the Reds and an England international - perhaps being listed for his reputation as a whole in part, former Ibrox striker Tore Andre Flo reckons it is mainly a testament to the job he has done in Glasgow.

Glasgow Times: Flo suspects Gerrard will be wanted down southFlo suspects Gerrard will be wanted down south

The Norwegian is not surprised Gerrard has been touted for moves down south. He's convinced, actually, that the 41-year-old will indeed make that switch in the not too distant future after he guided Gers to their first Premiership title in 10 years.

Not to mention, Flo says, the Light Blues' achievements and improvements in European competition. Gerrard and his side have become a regular fixture in the Europa League's latter stages.

But he hopes Gers can keep hold of their manager for a wee while longer to ensure they enjoy some dominance in Scottish football after finally wrestling back the league from Celtic.

"I definitely think Premier League clubs would be very interested in him if he repeats anything like the success he had last season,” Flo explained. "He’s already proven that he’s a very good manager and it could be difficult for Rangers to hold on to him. If they do, it’s very good for the club. It’s important to keep him as long as possible.

"First of all, I have to say I was very, very impressed with Rangers last season, it was so good.

"From here, I hope they can build on that but I’m sure Celtic will be eager to catch up again as quickly as possible, although Rangers have built themselves a really good base to work from. They have a very good group of players and a good manager so everyone is pulling in the right direction and I think the club is in a much healthier position now.

"They could look to go further in Europe. They did reasonably well last season and I think they could go even further this year. Getting back into the Champions League would be a huge step, but it’s a very tough ask."

A league title victory this season ahead would see the winner qualify for the Champions League group stage and Flo believes the stakes have not been higher for some time.

Celts have boasted, certainly in recent years, a healthier balance sheet than their foes, but Champions League money for Gers would be massive. But the former hitman, 48, sees it as more than just financial gain.

Players would improve thanks to the elite competition they'd face - which would provide an extra boost over their league opponents in terms of experience. "That puts the stakes to another level,” the retired striker added while talking with gambling.com

"Automatic qualification next year would be massive for either club and whoever gets it will take a huge advantage over their rival from there. It’s not just the economics of it all, it’s also the experience of playing against better teams, learning from them, that’s what Champions League football also offers you.

"But of course, being in the Champions League helps attract interest from more players too."
