Ange Postecoglou's Celtic confirmed two statement signings yesterday afternoon in Joe Hart and James McCarthy - and the Australian head coach hailed the pair as 'top class' upon their arrival.

Hart put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Parkhead after agreeing to depart Tottenham while Irishman McCarthy sealed a four-year contract at the club he has supported since he was a youngster.

The deals represent some fantastic business for the Hoops as the duo have vast experience in the Premier League and on the international stage. Hart, for example, is a two-time winner with Manchester City where he also picked up an FA Cup winners medal and two League Cup final victories.

McCarthy, 30, meanwhile, played 20 times for Crystal Palace in England's top tier last season and has been a regular with the likes of Everton and Wigan before that - where he won an FA Cup alongside Shaun Maloney back in 2013.

Their talent is undeniable and Postecoglou explained this week how pleased he was to get the deals over the line with some huge Europa League qualifiers on the horizon against Jablonec and then, if they can secure qualification into the play-offs, an even tougher two-legged tie against Dutch giants AZ Alkmaar.

"I’m delighted that we have signed two top-class players in Joe and James," Postecoglou told the club website yesterday. "Both of them have a wealth of experience at both club and international level, and that is something which can only benefit the squad, and I’m looking forward to working with both of them.

“I know our supporters will be well aware of both players, and I’m sure they’ll welcome them to the club and look forward to seeing both of them play for Celtic in the seasons ahead.”
