STEVEN DAVIS is confident Rangers can complete their Champions League turnaround after his late strike kept their play-off dreams alive against Malmo.

The Northern Irishman netted with the final kick of the game in Sweden as Steven Gerrard's side earned a crucial last-gasp goal to change the complexion of the tie and limit the damage in a 2-1 defeat.

Rangers found themselves on the back foot as Soren Rieks and Veljko Birmančević scored in quick succession at the start of the second half to put Malmo in control of proceedings.

But a deflected strike from Davis has given the champions a lifeline ahead of the return to Ibrox next Tuesday evening and what promises to be a memorable occasion under the floodlights.

Boss Gerrard has issued a rallying call to supporters to roar their heroes into the play-off round and Davis knows the job is far from beyond Rangers ahead of the return fixture with Jon Dahl Tomasson's side.

Davis told RangersTV: “It wasn’t the result we wanted. It was a couple of minutes of madness from us at the start of the second half which we were disappointed with.

“Had it been 2-0 I think it would have been a little bit harsh so we’re delighted to get the goal.

"It keeps the tie very much alive for us. The character was good, we kept trying to create things.

“We maybe lacked a bit of quality at times, forcing things as well, so there are definite areas we can improve on.

“We know the fans will be right behind us and we just need to go out and do our job.

“If we play the way we know we can then we will certainly put ourselves in a good position to qualify.”
