Celtic's Champions League foes FC Midtjylland are considering an appeal after being informed they fielded an ineligible player against the Hoops.

Ange Postecoglou's side could still benefit potentially from that situation after Brazilian Juninho was ordered not to play in last night's PSV defeat due to a suspension he accrued in Brazil back in June.

The player was banned for eight matches and there had been confusion over whether the ban would still be in place outside of his home country. A meeting between FIFA officials decided it would and they contacted FCM to tell them of their decision.

But it came after their two legged win over Celts and just before they squared off against PSV in the Netherlands last night.

A statement on the FC Midtjylland website last night said they would consider appealing against the ruling: "The Brazilian Football Federation handed out several quarantines in the spring after a disciplinary case in a match in Brazil, including to Juninho, who was awarded eight matches in the stands.

"In connection with the switch to FC Midtjylland, FIFA has had to assess whether the quarantine was exclusively valid nationally or world-wide. FIFA's Disciplinary Committee met yesterday afternoon, where it was decided to confirm the Brazilian Football Federation's quarantine of a total of eight playing days, two of which have already been served in Brazil.

"That information was passed on by UEFA a few hours ago, which is why Juninho has been forced out of tonight's showdown as well as the next five matches across all tournaments."

Sports manager Svend Gravesen added: "We take note of the decision, but do not understand the timing. We are a few hours from an important match for qualification for the Champions League in the Netherlands and do not have the opportunity to take a replacement."
