STEVEN GERRARD insists Rangers won't feel sorry for themselves ahead of their Champions League date with destiny as he vowed to give his misfiring stars some 'home truths' after the defeat to Dundee United.

Rangers saw their unbeaten Premiership run come to an end on Saturday as Jamie Robson netted the only goal of the game at Tannadice to give new boss Thomas Courts a famous victory.

The lacklustre loss was a second in succession for the champions after they were beaten 2-1 by Malmo in midweek and Rangers have yet to find their stride this term.

That is the result that Rangers must now look to overcome on Tuesday evening as they bid to reach the play-off rounds and set up a meeting with Olympiacos or Ludogorets.

And Gerrard knows he must pick his players up quickly ahead of a huge 90 minutes that will help shape their European ambitions this season.

Gerrard said: "Look, when you face a setback, it is a chance to reset and give some people some home truths and analyse, of course. That is what you do as a manager.

"But, at the moment, we have got no time to feel sorry for ourselves and be too down, we have got to try and pick this team up and squad up and we have got a massive game in three days time. We are certainly going to need a higher and better level of performance to get that done.

"In a perfect world, you want to go in [to the Malmo game] full of confidence on the back of a really strong away performance, but unfortunately we couldn’t produce that today. It is a bigger job for me and my staff.

"We need to get round the boys, pick them up and get them in the best place we can on Tuesday night. Different competition but this is a moment to reset and get themselves ready for this big game."
