JAMES TAVERNIER admits a lack of cutting edge cost Rangers dear as they suffered a second successive defeat on Saturday.

The champions went down 1-0 against Dundee United as they failed to bounce back from their midweek loss to Malmo and saw their lengthy unbeaten Premiership run come to an end.

That is the result that Steven Gerrard's side must now look to avenge as attentions turn to the second leg of their clash with the Swedes on Tuesday night.

Rangers produced a lacklustre showing at Tannadice as Jamie Robson netted the only goal of the game and Tavernier knows levels must improve if they are to keep their Champions League dreams alive.

Tavernier told RangersTV: "Disappointing. We weren't clinical and hungry in that final third.

"It is one of these games that we need to put to the back of our minds as quickly as possible and use that feeling now in the changing room and not want to feel like that again.

"Just got to be more clinical and more precise when we come into the final third. It was a game that we didn't deserve to win, but we didn't deserve to lose.

"We move on. We fully focus on Tuesday now.

"We kept on pushing but we didn't have that cutting quality in the final third. It is all on us.

"We have got to use this feeling now, rest up and we have got a massive game on Tuesday that we will be fully focused on now.

"Especially after a result like this, you always want a game as quickly as possible so we have got to use this now and channel it in the right way and come firing out at the first whistle on Tuesday.

"It is a massive game for the boys, the club and the fans so we need to be really at it from the get go."
