Mat Ryan has revealed he was not contacted by Celtic despite reports claiming the goalkeeper was a top target this summer.

Celts were on the lookout for a new stopper to compete with Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain and Ryan was tipped to be the ideal candidate with his future being away from Brighton.

In the end the Hoops signed former Manchester City and Tottenham goalie Joe Hart, but Ryan claims he was never offered any terms by Ange Postecoglou's side before he went on to join Real Sociedad.

"It was never a concrete option, obviously there was a lot of speculation in the media about it," the Australian international told SNA. "The timing of it all, Ange had just arrived there and I think he was taking a look at his squad and all that.

"It never eventuated into anything so at that time Real came along, expressed an interest and we really liked the project that was being described to us."

We told how Ryan, 29, dropped a huge hint before signing with Sociedad that he would have considered a move to Glasgow. "Haggis every day of the week," he responded to a question asked about haggis or paella - referencing Scotland or Spain.

“Nah, at the minute I’m on the fence. I’m not sure what I fancy, what my taste buds are craving just now. I’ll have to wait and see. At the minute, just nothing. I’m just waiting and seeing. Until, I guess, I get a bit of a craving to find out."
