STEVEN GERRARD insists he has no regrets over his team selection or messages at Ibrox during the Champions League exit to Malmo.

Rangers saw their dreams of a place in the lucrative group stages come to a premature end on Tuesday night as Jon Dahl Tomasson's side inflicted a third successive defeat on the champions to clinch a 4-2 aggregate victory.

A quickfire brace from Antonio Colak cancelled out Alfredo Morelos' strike that levelled the tie and Rangers were unable to capitalise on Bonke Innocent's red card on a night where defensive errors cost them dear.

Gerrard's selection of Leon Balogun ahead of Filip Helander has been questioned in the days since as Rangers capitulated after the break and were consigned to a spot in the Europa League.

Gerrard said: "Hindsight is a wonderful thing in football. I thought, gameplan-wise, in the first 45 minutes the players were outstanding.

"They carried it out perfectly well. The plan was always to try and win the first half and get in at half-time in a good place.

"At the time, you are thinking the sending off is a bonus, if you like.

"Looking back at the information my staff and I gave to the players at half-time, I wouldn’t change any of that information.

"We haven’t performed well enough in the second half to continue where we were in the first half.

"We’ve got two restarts badly wrong so we’ll certainly be looking at those situations to improve going forward.

"I’m not looking back and thinking I’ve made mistakes in terms of team selection.

"Once they scored, I tried to be as positive and bold as I could in my substitutions to try and find that goal again.

"We had enough pressure and got into the right places but if you can’t execute, you can’t turn results round."
