Matthew Lindsay: Rangers 2-2 Celtic

It is very hard to pick a winner in the first Old Firm match of the 2021-22 season. Rangers are at Ibrox and will have a sell-out crowd behind them. But their form both up front and at the back in recent weeks has been concerning for their manager Steven Gerrard. They have also lost players to Covid-19 this week.

Celtic are away and will have no fans in the stadium. Ange Postecoglou wants them to attack and they have been irresistible going forward at times of late. But on occasion they have been dire defensively. Who knows what will happen? I am going to go for a high-scoring draw.

Graeme McGarry: Rangers 1-2 Celtic

Trying to predict Old Firm games is a fraught business at the best of times, but in the current circumstances, it's almost impossible.

Rangers have been some way below the high levels they set for themselves last season so far in this campaign, while Celtic under Ange Postecoglou have been thrilling their fans going forward and frightening them with their defending.

The momentum though is slightly with the visitors, and I think they can edge it.

Chris Jack: Rangers 2-1 Celtic

The champions haven’t hit the heights expected so far but there would be no better time to find their rhythm.

Given Celtic’s issues at the back, Rangers have to fancy their chances of clicking in the final third.

Celtic, of course, are more than capable in front of goal as well and are expected to register.

The Ibrox factor could be decisive. It will be tight, but Rangers should just edge it.

Kenny Ward: Rangers 2-4 Celtic

Celtic have found some attacking fluency after a short bedding-in period during the Ange Postecoglou revolution, with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Odsonne Edouard, Liel Abada and David Turnbull all providing a quite stunning threat under the Australian’s fledgling stewardship. It is almost the perfect timing for the Parkhead side to be going up against their city rivals at Ibrox in the wake of their chastening relinquishing of the Premiership title they had held for the previous decade.

Although the quid pro quo for that cutting edge appears to be that when pressure has been applied to their defence, even with the vastly experienced Joe Hart in goal, they still have mistakes in them - as the England internationalist and centre-back Carl Starfelt demonstrated in the nervy 2-1 defeat in the Netherlands on Thursday night. Expect goals, and lots of them, but also for Celtic to lay down a marker of their attacking intent for the season ahead.

Aidan Smith: Rangers 1-2 Celtic

I fancy Celtic to pip their Glasgow rivals with Rangers currently struggling after their Covid outbreak. Even before their positive tests, Steven Gerrard’s side looked out of sorts and appear to be struggling for a cutting edge in the final third. Celtic have found form just at the right time and I expect them to continue in that fashion. Kyogo Furuhashi will be key.

Mark Hendry: Rangers 2-3 Celtic

This is Celtic’s best chance to beat their rivals in 18 months. Ange Postecoglou has his players firing on all cylinders with Liel Abada and Kyogo in particular integrating themselves well.

Meanwhile Gers were lacklustre against Alashkert and still have Covid to contend with.

Expect an attacking afternoon with the Hoops edging a goal-fest.

James Cairney: Rangers 2-4 Celtic

I’m expecting goals and a lot of them. Rangers have yet to really click into gear this season and have struggled going forward at times, while individual errors have creeped in at the back. Celtic, meanwhile, have discovered their attacking fluency under Ange Postecoglou and look a real threat going forward – but the high-risk, high-reward tactics leave them perilously open at the back on occasion.

I can see Rangers struggling to deal with Celtic’s attacking movement but at the same time, I would expect Steven Gerrard’s players to make the most of the seemingly inevitable slip-ups at the back. Carl Starfelt and Joe Hart haven’t truly convinced yet, and I think they could leak a goal or two as a result.
