RANGERS star Connor Goldson is missing today's match against St Johnstone because he is self-isolating, Steven Gerrard has confirmed.

The Ibrox boss told Sky Sports that the defender was unavailable after being forced to isolate as Covid continues to affect the Rangers squad.

It's not clear why Goldson has to isolate with Gerrard not delving into details on the situation. There is also no indication how long Goldson will be unavailable.

However, the news is a huge blow for the Ibrox club with Goldson a key figure in the Rangers backline over recent years.

"He is self isolating. Time will tell (how big a blow it is)", Gerrard admitted when probed on Goldson's absence.

"He has been an important player for us. He has been very crucial since day one for me.

"We would love to have him available."
