CELTIC great Chris Sutton has predicted a “tough couple of weeks” lie ahead for the Parkhead club after new signing Giorgos Giakoumakis joined their lengthy injury list.

Ange Postecolgou is missing captain and central midfielder Callum McGregor, on-form striker Kyogo Furuhashi, winger James Forrest and left back Greg Taylor as well as long-term absentee Christopher Jullien.

And tonight Greek striker Giakoumakis, a £3m acquisition from VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands, suffered a calf strain as he was warming up in the first-half of the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Raith Rovers at Celtic Park.

Postecoglou had hoped to hand his compatriot a long-awaited first team debut in the second-half of the – but ended up sending his to hospital for a scan instead.

The Glasgow giants have an important cinch Premiership match against Dundee United at home on Saturday and then face German outfit Bayer Leverkusen in a Europa League group game in the East End on Thursday evening.

Asked about Giakoumakis suffering a knock by Premier Sports, Postecoglou said: “It is a massive, massive blow. Celtic have got enough injuries.

“They signed a goalscorer. Odsonne Edouard has gone down south now and Celtic are struggling for players.

“You need players on the Celtic bench who can come on and make an impact. It is just not there. It is going to be a tough couple of weeks for Celtic. They are severely stretched."
