JAMES TAVERNIER has vowed to bring further success to Rangers after marking his 300th appearance with a hard-fought win in their Premiership title defence.

The Ibrox skipper celebrated the landmark moment on Saturday as Steven Gerrard's side clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Dundee.

Joe Aribo netted the only goal of the game at Dens Park to keep the champions top of the table and clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Tavernier guided Rangers to their historic 55th league flag last term and is determined to achieve further goals at home and abroad in the coming years.

Tavernier told RangersTV: "300 games is a lot of games. They have come fast, it feels as though they have come fast.

"But it is the overall progression of the club, seeing how the team has come on since I have been here.

"We are reaching new heights, we are always demanding and wanting better from each other. As long as we continue doing that every day on the training pitch and in games and getting better and better, then the club will be in a great place.

"It has been some journey. It has been a rollercoaster.

"Towards the end of the stint and last season, we were successful in the league. We want to improve on that.

"We want to try and get Champions League next season, be better in domestic cups. We are always wanting more, always more hungry.

"It has been a great journey but I have still got loads to go and I can’t wait to see what the future brings."

Rangers went into the Dundee clash aiming to get back to winning ways in the Premiership following their frustrating draw at home to Motherwell last weekend.

It would turn into a nervy afternoon for Gerrard's side as Jon McLaughlin saved a Jason Cummings penalty to ensure Aribo's strike won it.

Tavernier said: "Three points and a clean sheet. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, as we would have liked it, but we saw it over the line and found a way to win the game and keep the ball out the net.

"Jon has pulled off a great save for the penalty. Really happy that we have come away with three important points.

"That is the progression of how much we have evolved as a team and the experience that we have had with each other now for a few years to see out the game.

"We did that last season and it is about doing it this season and improving on that. It was a gritty game, but our first and foremost job is to get the three points and we did and we are happy to get the clean sheet.

"It was great quality [for the goal]. Buff saw Joe’s run and Joe has shown great composure, which he has done this season, in and around the box to finish off the goal.

"A great goal that we scored. We would probably like to create more clear cut chances but as long as we keep it out the back of the net that is the main aim. We go home with three points."

The three points were the main positive for boss Gerrard to take from the trip to Tayside as Rangers built on their cup victory over Livingston in midweek.

The performance of midfielder Juninho Bacuna was another pleasing factor for the champions and Tavernier was impressed with a second half cameo from the former Huddersfield star.

Tavernier said: "Bacca has been really at it in training and I am sure he will get his shot at starting a game. He has been a breath of fresh air when he has come in and he has shown real quality.

"Really excited to see him in the team. That is just what we have been doing, adding quality to the squad and improving every time and pushing each other on."
