IVAN TONEY has revealed he almost signed for Celtic AND Rangers before eventually joining Brentford.

The striker, who has two goals and two assists in his first six English Premier League starts, had the chance to join either side of the Old Firm last summer.

Toney was long rumoured to be high on then Celtic boss Neil Lennon's wish list with reports even suggesting he had agreed terms on a Parkhead deal.

But unknown at the time was that Toney was also close on a move to Glasgow rivals Rangers.

Toney admitted he had the chance to join either club after Ibrox legend Ally McCoist had thanked the striker for not heading to Parkhead.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist joked: "The first thing I’ve got to say to you mate, you’ve got no idea as a Rangers supporter how happy I am you didn’t go to Celtic, I am absolutely thrilled about that.

“Your form has been out of this world.

“Realistically, you must have dreams about playing international football?”

And Toney replied: “Yeah of course. Well, like you said I was going to sign for Celtic but I was also going to sign for Rangers."

A stunned McCoist added: “I didn’t know that. Oh you've killed me! I didn’t know that, man.”

Responding to McCoist's initial question over international football, Toney said: “The fact my name is ringing around to play at international level is a crazy feeling.

“I am just happy and I am enjoying my football at the moment. Whatever comes at the end of the day will be.

“My main focus at the moment is doing well for Brentford, getting them high as possible in the league and just doing well for the team really.”
