STEVE Clarke has warned his Scotland players they will have be wary of all of Israel’s forwards to get a win in their Qatar 2022 qualifier at Hampden on Saturday – not just their prolific striker Eran Zahavi.

PSV Eindhoven forward Zahavi, his country’s all-time leading marksman, is currently the top scorer in Group F after netting six times in as many games and will be the danger man for Willibald Ruttensteiner’s side in Glasgow next weekend.

However, Clarke is also an admirer of attacking midfielder Manor Solomon of Shakhtar Donetsk, Munas Dabbur of PSV Eindhoven and Shon Weissman of Valladolid as well and can understand why the third-placed team in the section have netted 14 times.

“I like all their front players,” he said. “I like Solomon who plays in the little half position, half-midfield, half-forward.

“Zahavi is capable of dropping in deep to get the ball and he can score goals left foot and right. He is also capable of stretching the pitch behind. He is a handful. Dabbur, if he plays, is a good target player who does well in the German Bundesliga.

“Even if they play Weismann, he is always stretching the pitch and looking to get in behind, always a threat on the shoulder. I like the make-up of their team. Their team is structured well and they have dangerous players up front.”

Scotland have found goals difficult to come during in their World Cup qualifying bid and Clarke has brought in Aston Villa set-piece coach Austin MacPhee onto his backroom team in a bid to improve their conversion rate.

"It will be good for me because he's different, a coach I've never worked with before, so I am going to have to be on my toes,” he said. “He's going to ask questions, he's going to push myself and John Carver as a staff.

“That's good, that freshens us up a little bit, and the players will enjoy working with him. If he can improve us a little bit in certain areas, then it will be a good appointment for us but let's not put too much pressure on Austin.”

Clarke added: "I never get too hung up on who scores the goals, as long as we score one more than the opposition that's all that matters. If they can chip in with a few more, great, but if Dykesy (Lyndon Dykes) or Che (Adams) can add a few more up top, it's also great.

“Even if one of your centre-backs is the one that goes up and scores the goal that wins you the game, I don't think we should get too hung up on who scores the goals.”
