HIBS defender Ryan Porteous has been branded a ‘Hatchet man’ by former Celtic star Kris Commons

Leading by a goal-to-nil through Kevin Nisbet’s eighth-minute header, Porteous was adjudged to have flown dangerously high into a tackle with Joe Aribo, prompting referee Nick Walsh to brandish a straight red card in the 29th minute.

Second-half goals from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos ensured the win for the Gers as Jack Ross’ 10-men were unable to hold out at Ibrox.

The Scottish football pundit spoke out after the 22-year-old was sent off in his sides 2-1 defeat at Ibrox yesterday.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, He said: "So what to make of Ryan Porteous after his latest red card against Rangers?

"He went flying in on Borna Barisic in a game two years ago and was rightly dismissed.

"Yesterday, it was Joe Aribo who was on the receiving end of another ridiculous challenge from the young Hibs centre-half.

"I don't actually think there was much contact.

"But it was reckless from Porteous the way he lunged in over the top of the ball.

"When you're 1-0 up away from home at Ibrox, you're looking for your team to show a bit of composure and maturity.

"But the naivety of Porteous cost his team any chance of victory.

"It's not the first time we've seen this sort of rash stupidity from him.

"He gave the referee a decision to make.

"And when you've carved out a reputation for yourself as a bit of a hothead, there's only one way that's going to end.

"Not so much hard man as hatchet man."
