John Lundstram's tackle on Josh Doig from Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash has been addressed by Rangers hero Alex Rae.

The Ibrox midfielder has come into question by many Hibs fans for his challenge on Doig in the first half after Ryan Porteous was flashed red for his lunge on Joe Aribo shortly after.

Hibs have since lodged an appeal against Porteous' dismissal, but Rae does not believe that Lundstram's tackle was anywhere near as bad.

Speaking on Superscoreboard, he said: "He clearly lunges towards the ball, but if you are talking about endangering him, I didn't quite see the same as Porteous.

"I don't think it was anywhere near the same force as Porteous, and I don't think it's reckless because he's on that side of the ball.

"I didn't quite see the two of them marry up."

Hibs confirmed on Monday that they have decided there is merit in contesting the decision to send off Porteous.

Chief executive Ben Kensell told the club’s website: “After reviewing footage of the incident, we have decided to appeal the decision.

“We believe we have enough evidence to show his challenge was not worthy of a sending off.

“We will await an answer from the SFA and stand united with Ryan, who has our absolute support.”

Hibs manager Jack Ross said after the match: “I think Ryan gives him a decision to make. I don’t necessarily agree with the decision but I can understand why it’s given.”

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, meanwhile, described it as “a wild tackle”.
