BRONDBY’S hopes of beating Rangers in their Europa League match in Denmark on Thursday night received a huge boost today.

Mikael Uhre, the Dansh Superlga champions' leading scorer, is set to return from injury in the Group A match in the Brondby Stadium.

Uhre, the 6ft 2in striker who has netted eight times in the 2021/22 campaign, suffered an ankle injury in the 2-1 win over Copenhagen last month.

The 27-year-old wasn’t involved in the matches against Aalborg and Viborg last week.

Glasgow Times:

Manager Niels Fredriksen fielded Marko Divkovic up front alongside Simon Hedlund in the Superliga game against Viborg on Sunday and his men won 1-0.

However, the 22-year-old Croatian, on a season-long loan from Dunajska Streda in Slovakia, is still waiting to open his account for Brondby.

Fredriksen revealed today that Uhre is likely to start in the rematch with Steven Gerrard’s team.

“It's very positive,” he told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. “All the indications are that Mikael will be ready to play by Thursday.

“Marko did well for us on Sunday, but it is important for us to get Uhre ready, because he is our top scorer and has speed that can threaten the Scots.”

Brondby need to beat Scottish champions Rangers, who ran out comfortable 2-0 victors against their Danish counterparts at Ibrox last month, to stand any chance of reaching the last 32 of the competition.
