DEREK MCINNES has been tipped to be a "short-term fix" for Rangers if Steven Gerrard seals a move to Aston Villa.

Dundee captain and former Rangers ace Charlie Adam reckons the ex-Aberdeen boss is the only option in Scotland for the Ibrox gig.

Adam, who reckons Ibrox chiefs might be caught short if Gerrard leaves, has predicted a short-term manager will be appointed until the end of the season.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Adam said: "I think it will be a short-term fix at the moment. I just think they'll have to get someone now to consolidate from now until the end of the season and then see where they go from that.

"It'll be a surprise for them, I don't think they'll have had anybody lined up or any names floating around.

"The way Ross works he's probably has got four or five on a list that he's thought 'If this happens we need to be prepared for it'.

"But they've probably thought that it wouldn't happen and they'll be maybe caught a little bit short.

"I think it could be maybe a short-term fix. I think Derek could come in and be the stop-gap until the end of the season."

And while predicting McInnes to come in at Ibrox, Adam gave his thoughts on some of the other names in the mix.

He ruled out Alex Neil and Michael Beale before insisting in his opinion McInnes is the only available option in Scotland.

"I don't think Alex Neil could get it, I don't think Michael Beale, he'll go to Aston Villa with him.

"I think Derek maybe could come in but there is nobody else in Scotland available that I think would be able to get it."
