STEVEN GERRARD is set to join Aston Villa on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The Rangers manager is edging towards his departure from Glasgow, with the switch expected to be complete within the next 48-hours.

Sky Sports News report that the Liverpool legend has agreed to move to the Premier League outfit until the summer of 2024.

That is when his current contract at Ibrox is due to expire.

It also falls in line with Jurgen Klopp's deal finishing at Liverpool.

The loss of the 41-year-old is a massive blow for the champions and comes on the eve of make-or-break fixtures against Hibernian and Sparta Prague and a potentially defining run of fixtures in their top flight defence.

The report states that the move will be finalised by the weekend, with Gerrard joining Villa CEO Christian Purslow for dinner in London last night.

Attentions for Rangers will now turn to replacing Gerrard and his backroom staff, who are expected to joining him at Villa Park and the EPL side struck a multi-million pound compensation deal with the Glasgow giants.

Former Gers stars Gennaro Gattuso, Derek McInnes and Kevin Thomson already feature prominently in the betting markets.
