STEVEN GERRARD joined Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow for dinner in London last night.

The 41-year-old is edging closer to moving from Rangers to the Premier League side.

A deal is in place between the clubs to take the Liverpool legend to Villa Park just months after he guided Rangers to their 55th league title.

Assistant manager Gary McAllister, coaches Michael Beale and Tom Culshaw and performance expert Jordan Milsom will also leave Rangers after Villa put together a multi-million pound compensation deal for the management team.

Gerrard will pen a two-and-a-half year deal at Villa, with the move expected to go through in the next 48-hours.

This will see him commit his future to the club until the summer of 2024, which is also when Jurgen Klopp's deal at Liverpool is currently due to expire.

Last night, according to Sky Sports, Gerrard met with Villa's chief executive Purslow to discuss the job.

The pair go back a long way, having already enjoyed a working relationship together while at Liverpool.

Gerrard was still playing and captaining the Reds when Purslow was carrying out a similar role at Anfield between 2009 and 2010.

The Rangers manager was spotted arriving in the capital yesterday, with footage emerging on social media of the ex-England skipper walking off of a train.
