Rangers legend Ally McCoist says Steven Gerrard is taking a big gamble in moving to Aston Villa.
The 41-year-old has penned a deal until the summer of 2025 with the Premier League side.
The news was confirmed by both Rangers and Villa at 10am this morning.
The deal brings the Liverpool legend's time in Glasgow to an end after three-and-a-half years in charge at Ibrox.
Michael Beale and Gary McAllister are expected to follow Gerrard to Villa Park to remain as part of his backroom staff.
And while McCoist admits Gerrard is moving to the biggest and best league, he believes that is mitigated by the risk factor the job poses.
On hand to give his live reaction on talkSPORT, he said: "There's no doubt about it - Steven is moving to a better league and the the best league in world football.
"But I still think it is a gamble. A gamble for both parties.
"It's a gamble for Vila as he is untried and tested in that league and a gamble for Steven in the respect that we are all surmising that he wants the Liverpool job.
"I think he does and I genuinely hope he does get it if that's his dream.
"But to do that he has to be a success at Aston Villa."
