LORENZO AMORUSO has backed Giovanni van Bronckhorst to lands the Rangers job.

Former team-mates at Ibrox, the pair go way back from the time in Glasgow together.

And ex-Ibrox defender Amoruso wants to see his old compatriot replace Steven Gerrard in the Rangers hotseat and continue to good work the Liverpool legend has carried out over the past three-and-a-half years.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Giovanni was a young player – definitely a talented player. His career after [leaving Rangers] speaks for him.

"Of course, he has been at clubs where you learn so much how to play football – good football – and I think Rangers at the moment need this kind of manager.

"Because after Steven Gerrard, I think you need to keep going that way. Giovanni is probably the best candidate to do so.

"Every football player improves himself with experience, especially when they stop playing football.

"I think that’s the case with Giovanni. He knows how to win because as a player he has been winning but also as a manager.

"Don’t forget that he has been a winning manager at Feyenoord."

The Italian was asked about can Bronckhorst's personality traits from sharing a dressing room with the Dutchman at Ibrox.

He added:"A joker – definitely a joker! He’s a good lad, a happy lad, so it was a good mixture in the team at that time. With Giovanni and with the other youngsters there was a great relationship in the dressing room.

"He’s a very polite person. He knows football. He is very calm but on the field he knew what to do.

"I see the way he’s been speaking and playing with Feyenoord – I think he will organise Rangers the way he was as a player. Well-organised players with good ideas in their head and of course, most of all, in their feet."
