CELTIC are 'confident' of pushing through a January move for Shamrock Rovers midfielder Danny Mandroiu, according to reports.

The 23-year-old - who provided 15 goals as Rovers secured the Irish league title - is believed to have been on the Parkhead club's radar for some time.

Celtic have already dipped into the Irish market after signing Mandroiu's former Shamrock Rovers team-mate Liam Scales in the summer, and the Scottish Sun report that the Glasgow club are keen to snap up Mandroiu when the transfer window reopens, and are "confident" of reaching an agreement.

However, a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

Mandroiu's eye-catching form in his homeland led to a call-up from Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny for June's friendlies against Andorra and Hungary but the 23-year-old is still to make his senior debut for the national team.
