FORMER Holland manager Ronald Koeman is now the third favourite with the bookies to replace Steven Gerrard as Rangers boss.

Gerrard called time on a successful three-and-a-half year stint at Ibrox last week when he agreed to take the reins at Aston Villa, taking first-team coaches like Michael Beale and Gary McAllister with him to the Premier League.

Former Rangers defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains the most likely candidate with bookmakers to land the top job at Ibrox but now Koeman - another former Barca player - looks to have entered the running.

SkyBet have priced van Bronckhorst as the odds-on favourite at 1/6 but Koeman now finds himself in third and can be backed at around 10/1.

Glasgow Times:

The former Ajax, Everton and Southampton boss is out of work after being sacked by Barcelona at the tail end of last month.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Koeman is a serious contender for the role but Jo Hendry - a journalist working for Go Radio, one of Rangers' official media partners - reported on Twitter that the 58-year-old was "never under consideration" for the vacancy at Ibrox.

Player-coach Jermaine Defoe, B team boss David McCallum, goalkeeping coach Colin Stewart and youth team coach Brian Gilmour have been placed in charge during the interim.
