Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson was left “astounded” by Connor Goldson’s remarkable post-match interview with Premier Sports.

The big defender suggested the 3-1 defeat to Hibs was finished at half-time when the game was 3-1 and went on to suggest his Ibrox teammates had lost their “hunger” after last season’s title success.

And the Kelty Hearts boss was taken aback by Goldson’s reaction because his time at Rangers under Walter Smith was characterised by a never say die attitude to matches.

He said: “That has to be the question to every player, ‘Do you deserve to be here? Do you want to be here? Do you have the minerals to play for Rangers?”

“By the way, they got massive plaudits last year and rightly so because they were sensational, a joy to watch and blew the league apart week out and broke record after record. So it was right they got all the plaudits.

“But I find it difficult to believe the game was over at half time, 3-0 down. Listen...”

Host Darrell Currie broke in to add: “You were astounded that he said that!”

He responded: “Because you are expected to keep on going and keep on going until you are beat. That’s what being a Rangers players is all about.”
