RANGERS hero Barry Ferguson has been defended over his stance regarding Giovanni van Bronckhorst getting into the Hampden dressing rooms last Sunday versus Hibs.

The former Ibrox star earlier this week stated that the Dutchman should've been in the changing rooms at half-time to give his new players a rocket up their backsides after a dismal first-half showing, with his side 3-1 down.

Ross Wilson revealed in Gio's first press conference that work permit issues prevented the 46-year-old from having a hands-on approach during the cup semi-final loss.

Some Rangers fans were strong in their criticsm of Ferguson in the wake of his comments.

But older brother Derek Ferguson reckons his sibling had a valid argument.

Appearing on Open Goal Right In The Coupon show, he told host Si Ferry that he felt some Gers fans had been tough on Barry regarding the subject.

He explained: "I see someone is getting some stick because he mentioned that (van Bronkhorst not being in the dressing room)... my brother.

"I think it's a wee bit unfair on him. I think Barry is just wearing his heart on his sleeve, telling you the way he would go about it.

"Some Rangers supporters have been a bit harsh on Barry.

"I know he couldn't go down during the match, but I think he should've spoken to his players even an hour before the game, or even half an hour before they got the the stadium.

"With Zoom calls and everything, it's so easy to do a team talk. You use everything and anything to gain an advantage - I don't think Rangers ued that in that semi-final."
