CHRIS SUTTON sent a Rangers fan a cheeky response tonight in the wake of Celtic's Europa League exit on Thursday.

Ange Postecoglou's men still remain involved in European football this season, but defeat in Leverkusen meant that it will be the Conference League knockout rounds after Christmas and not UEFA's secondary competition.

Rangers qualified for the last-32 of the Europa League for a third successive season in Giovanni van Bronckhorst's first game in charge, as an Alfredo Morelos double sealed the 2-0 win at Ibrox.

And one Rangers fans took the opportunity to try rub salt into the wounds of Sutton after his former side's disappointing result last night.

However, the ex-Blackburn striker was as witty as ever in his response as he fired back with a brutal cup final dig.

Sutton was tweeting about Scotland's World Cup play-off draw, with Ukraine the opponents drawn out of the hat for Steve Clarke's men next March.

A Rangers fan replied to state that Sutton has been "quiet" after Celtic's defeat at the BayArena.

But Sutton quipped back: "I've been at a League Cup Final meeting..."

Celtic will face Hibs at Hampden on Sunday, December 19 after Jack Ross' team beat Rangers with 3-1 on Sunday with van Bronckhorst watching on from the stands.
