CELTIC are reportedly closing in on a move for Japanese left-back Reo Hatate.

The 24-year-old is out of contract with J-League side Kawasaki Frontale in January and could become Ange Postecoglou's first signing of the window.

Josip Juranovic is currently first-choice at left-back for Celtic with Greg Taylor out injured. The Croatian right-back has been deployed in the position with Anthony Ralston on the opposite flank.

But Postecoglou could add to his left-back options with Hatate reportedly close to agreeing a move to Parkhead.

The Daily Mail report a deal between both parties is "well down the road" ahead of a possible January switch.

It comes after Postecoglou admitted he was keen to add to his squad in the transfer window and continue to craft his own team at Parkhead.

Speaking after the late loss to Bayer Leverkusen, Postecoglou said: "We are still just four or five months into building a team and it was never going to happen in one transfer window.

"We need more depth and players in certain areas that can help us bridge the gap."
