CALLUM McGregor has compared Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart to his predecessor Fraser Forster – and predicted the England internationalist will go from strength to strength this season.

Hart produced several outstanding saves in the Europa League match against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany on Thursday night to keep the visitors in the match.

He was unable to prevent the Bundesliga giants scoring twice in the last eight minutes and winning 3-2, but McGregor was impressed with his individual display.

The Scotland internationalist feels the ex-Manchester City, Torino, West Ham and Spurs player has the same presence as his old team mate Forster.

But the Parkhead skipper expects the 34-year-old to maintain his form in the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign and try to improve upon his recent displays.

“Joe is massive for us and again made two huge saves for us in Germany in the Leverkusen game,” said McGregor ahead of the cinch Premiership match against Aberdeen in Glasgow today.

“Celtic have a history of having brilliant keepers, it is something which is pretty synonymous with the club. If we mention Fraser Forster, I would say Joe is of a similar stature.

“He is a really experienced player so we didn’t really worry about him in terms of settling into the team. He is a good age and a good personality as well so it is great to see him doing so well here.

“I am sure he will always be pushing to get better. That is one for all the players, you are always pushing to improve and I am sure he will be exactly the same.”
