GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst believes his Rangers players are beginning to execute his game plan after watching them beat Dundee 3-0 at Ibrox and move seven points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership.

A Joe Aribo strike in the first-half and a Ryan Sweeney own goal and an Alfredo Morelos effort in the second ensured that Van Bronckhorst won his fourth game in charge.

The Dutchman, who succeeded Steven Gerrard little over a fortnight ago, was impressed with how his charges performed during a 90 minutes which they dominated.

“We were very controlled today which is what you want when you play at home,” he told Rangers TV. “We created a lot of chances and didn’t give a lot away. We did well today.

“Even at 3-0 up we were still looking for the fourth goal. That’s the desire you need in games and we have to show that. I’m happy with the performance, it was very good. And I’m pleased with the points again.”

Van Bronckhorst added: “You’re now starting to see what we’ve been working on. We work hard to get our passing game and the speed we want, especially against opponents who are really organised.

“You need that flow of passing and we did well with that today. The more minutes played, the more space we got. When we changed the direction of play quickly, we dominated those areas.”

The former Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona player was delighted with the performance of Aribo, who scored the opening goal and was involved in the second, after the one-sided triumph.

“Joe is very good and he’s an important player for us,” he said. “He’s been here for a few years now and you can see what he brings to the team. He scored a goal today, but his overall performance, defensively and offensively was really dynamic.

“Fashion (Sakala) was unlucky not to score but he did exactly what we needed him to do. He gave us a threat on the left side with a lot of speed.  In one v ones we created for him, he was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.

“He had some great finishes but the Dundee goalie had an excellent game today making good saves.”

Van Bronckhorst rested both Steven Davis and Ryan Kent and was pleased there was no drop in Rangers’ performance level.

He continued: “The depth in the squad and the balance is really good with different players.

“When we brought on Scott (Wright) we knew about his ability to accelerate with the ball so we could create even more chances. His first touches in the game were excellent and that’s the threat we want from him.

“I know what Ryan Jack means to this team and the supporters. I see him every day in training and I was happy to get him some minutes today. The more he gets on the pitch, the stronger he’ll be.

“We’re looking ahead to Lyon now. We have a great position in the group after working hard against Sparta to reach the next stage. We’ll recover and rest with a day off but from Tuesday we’ll prepare for Lyon and be ready for the game.”
