CRAIG LEVEIN has made a huge claim regarding a Scottish referee being assigned a match at Ibrox because he was a Rangers fan.

The former Hearts manager claimed that the official was given the specific game as a favour because it was his last game.

The Brechin advisor appears on Monday night's edition of BBC Sportsound.

The panel, also including Tom English and Darryl Broadfoot, discussed recent incidents, as well as the potential future introduction of VAR in the Premiership.

The discussions mainly centred around Robbie Neilson's opinion that the officials cost Hearts the game at Celtic Park last Thursday, as Ange Postecoglou's men ran out 1-0 winners.

In the interview, Levein made unfounded allegations that a former referee was given a game against Dundee United, while he was their manager, at Ibrox as a favour because it would mark his last game.

The former Scotland boss was fined by the Scottish FA for his comments.

He said at the time: "He may have admitted he made mistakes, but that's not the point of any of this.

"That's not what I was on about or why I did what I did. It wasn't for him to explain why he made those decisions."

And he continued last night: “Well I can go back to a game when I was at Dundee United at Ibrox and the official was absolutely appalling.

“He made mistake, after mistake, after mistake. It was his last game. His very last game. And he got given a game at Ibrox because, I believe, he was a Rangers fan.”
