FORMER Rangers chairman Dave King has launched a sensational bid to return to the Ibrox board and aid the ‘further development’ of the Premiership champions.
King stepped down from his position as chairman in March 2020 after announcing his intention to bring an end to his reign at the Annual General Meeting the previous November.
And Herald and Times Sport can reveal that he has offered his services to the hierarchy of RIFC plc as he attempts to gain enough support around the top table to earn a boardroom seat.
King – who holds a 15.45 per cent stake in Rangers - has spent recent months dealing with the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in his adopted homeland but has remained a detailed observer from afar as he has kept a close eye on off-field matters as well as Rangers’ Premiership title defence.
King said: “Now that my business interests in South Africa have been stabilised following the devastations of Covid, I have advised the board of RIFC plc that I am available to re-join the board and offer my services to the further development of the Club.

“I remain the largest shareholder of RIFC and look forward to many years of service to the Club and, most importantly, to its supporters.”
King played a leading role in returning Rangers to the top of the Scottish game as they clinched their 55th league flag six years after he, John Gilligan and Paul Murray ousted the former Ibrox regime at the end of a bitter boardroom war.

Last month – in a move revealed by Herald and Times Sport – King voted against the reappointment of Graeme Park to the RIFC plc board and later stated that he had a ‘continuing moral obligation to consider the interest of supporters at all times’.
Now he is aiming to return to Ibrox in an official capacity as he seeks to drive Rangers forward on and off the park once again.
