RANGERS midfielder Ryan Jack has been ruled out of action until the winter break after suffering a setback on his road to recovery from a long-standing injury issue/.

The 29-year-old returned to duty in the win over Ross County last month and has also made appearances against Hibernian and Dundee in recent weeks.

Jack appeared to have put the worst of his injury troubles behind him after several months on the sidelines that saw him miss the European Championships and the start of Rangers' title defence.

But boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst now expects the Scotland star to spend further time on the treatment table after another setback last week.

Van Bronckhorst said: “Ryan we hope to have back as soon as possible, but I think that would be around the winter break or during the winter break.

“So we hope to have Ryan back fully fit when we start back after the winter break.

“I was happy with him because he came back. He didn’t play a lot but we could give him some minutes to play.

“But then in the last training session before Lyon he just had a moment again, really just at the end of the session.

“He was of course disappointed but he felt it wasn’t as bad as he had before. Hopefully we get a quick recovery for him.

“I’m sure that he will be with us in the next couple of weeks to train again."

The loss of Jack comes as a blow for Van Bronckhorst as Rangers attempt to continue their unbeaten run under his guidance heading into the Premiership shutdown.

And there is further negative news on the injury front as the Ibrox boss prepares to be without striker Kemar Roofe for the remainder of a crucial sequence of fixtures.

Van Bronckhorst said: “Kemar has had a setback with his injury and we are almost at the end of the games now before the winter break.

“Hopefully he will be fit before then, but we are not sure yet. We should definitely have him back after the winter break.

“We have the same players who were available on Sunday, so no new injuries.”
