SCOTT WRIGHT savoured his 'Christmas miracle' after setting Rangers on the road to victory over St Mirren at Ibrox.

The winger opened the scoring in the Boxing Day clash before Alfredo Morelos doubled the champions' lead and secured a six-point advantage over Celtic in the title race.

Wright nodded the ball beyond keeper Jak Alnwick after Calvin Bassey connected with a James Tavernier corner after 14 minutes.

Rangers remain unbeaten under the guidance of boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst and hold a commanding position heading into the Premiership winter break.

Wright now has four goals for the champions this term and was pleased to play his part in a commanding Premiership victory.

Wright told RangersTV “A back post header – it was a Christmas miracle!

“It was a good ball in and it came to me at the back post. I was just trying to react and thankfully it went in – and Buff didn’t claim it.

“The win was the most important thing. The aim was to pick up the three points and keep a clean sheet, and we managed to do that. It’s good to get a win before the break.

“We saw the benefits of the full week of training. You could see we were trying to take up different positions and we set up a bit differently.

“I thought it was effective for us. We got the players we wanted on the ball in an attempt to beat the low block.

“Obviously we know we are going to face that most weeks and it's about coming up with ideas and being creative to break it down.

“There’s an onus on me as an attacking player to do that. I feel we have got some momentum now as a team and a club.

"We want to keep that going. We need to rest up, stay safe, and come back raring to go.”
