ALEX MCLEISH has tipped Celtic and Rangers to discuss a January transfer move for Dundee United star Jeando Fuchs.

The Cameronian international's contract at Tannadice expires in the summer and he's already claimed to have been contacted by both Glasgow clubs.

Fuchs has impressed during his time at United and claims to have also been contacted by a number of English clubs - including one in the Premier League over his future.

But former Rangers and Scotland boss McLeish has urged either of the Glasgow rivals to go after Fuchs to keep him in Scotland.

And he reckons the clubs could "open the chequebook" and realistically sign the midfielder next month.

McLeish told Football Insider: “It is much more competitive for them, money-wise.

“I know Rangers and Celtic have done some big deals but it’s much more competitive for them to see an emerging player in the Scottish Premiership.

“They know that they can open the chequebook and that’s a target that they could achieve and sign in January.

“It is great for the Scottish game they keep transfers within our divisions and in the country. Fabulous.

“I go back to my days at Rangers with Kris Boyd and Stevie Thomson from Dundee United. These two guys were brilliant.

“It’s fantastic if Fuchs can be a player who they keep within the Scottish system.”

Speaking earlier this month, Fuchs told Foot Mercato: "I am at the end of my contract in May.

"I'm waiting to see something concrete and see if I have a choice to make at that time. I am not in a hurry.

"We are well place, we are having a good season. I don't want to jump into another quagmire and regret again afterwards.

"There has been contact with Blackpool, Peterborough and Wigan. Stuttgart have taken information since the summer.

"There has been from Celtic and Rangers as well, but nothing more. A Premier League club as well. England would be good."
